Tips For Saving Money On Your Air Conditioning In Phoenix Az

Posted on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 in Performing Arts

If you’re like most homeowners, you could stand to lower your energy bill. Many homeowners are paying between $3,500-$5,000 a year towards their energy costs, and most of this is caused by the heating and cooling systems. Being that summer time is here, it would be best to try a few tricks to keep your costs down. Let’s take a look at a few simple solutions that’ll help save you money. You can get more info at.

Before you call a service for Air Conditioning Phoenix AZ to see what they have available, and have them deliver an ultra-large AC unit, consider why your home is absorbing so much heat. When the sun shines onto your roof, and into your windows, it causes heat to accumulate inside of the home. An effective solution would be to plant a few leafy trees around the exterior. The trees can intercept the sun and cast a shadow on your home instead.

Again, heat can accumulate inside of your home when features like skylights and windows are open. When it comes to windows, sometimes drawing the curtains isn’t enough. Instead, consider installing solar screens on your windows. Roughly 70 percent of the solar energy that enters through your windows can be stopped by these screens. If you don’t prefer screens, you can have window film installed instead. The film works to reflect the heat and prevent it from transmitting into the home.

When it comes to the Air Conditioning Phoenix AZ has available, some people simply use it too much. You could cut down your costs quite a bit by simply adjusting the thermostat. For instance, when you’re at home, try setting the thermostat to about 77 or 78 degrees Fahrenheit. However, when you’re not at home, or when the sun is down, consider raising the temperature a little higher. According to some experts you can save as much as 20 percent on your energy bill by doing this.

Use these cost cutting tips in order to help keep a little extra money in your pocket. Remember to focus on protecting your house from the sun as much as possible. Use trees, plants, screens, or window film to prevent heat from accumulating. If you’d like to have your unit serviced, you can call Arizona Refrigeration Service Inc of Phoenix AZ for assistance.

Mystery surrounds ricin discovery in Las Vegas hotel

Mystery surrounds ricin discovery in Las Vegas hotel
Posted on Monday, June 3, 2019 in Uncategorized

Saturday, March 1, 2008

On February 14, a man staying at the Valley View Extended Stay America hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada was hospitalized after experiencing respiratory distress. The man lapsed into unconsciousness and has been at the hospital ever since.

Since the bills at the hotel were going unpaid, Extended Stay America began to evict the man from the room. Another man, described as either a friend or relative, went to the hotel on Thursday to collect the personal belongings of the hospitalized man.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Deputy Chief Kathy Suey, he found several vials of a white substance. He brought them to the attention of the hotel manager, who called police.

Initial tests, which further tests confirmed on Friday, the substance was the deadly toxin ricin, an extremely dangerous biological agent. Ricin is extracted from castor beans through the waste produced in the manufacture of castor oil. It is currently being used in cancer treatment research. There has been research for its use as a chemical/biological warfare agent. An amount smaller than the point of a pin will kill a human being. It is estimated to be several thousand times more toxic than cyanide and there is no known antidote.

Police cordoned off the area around Valley View between Flamingo Road and Harmon Avenue. Three employees and the man who made the discovery were taken to the hospital as a precaution. So were three police officers. They are all reported to show no signs of poisoning.

Nevada National Guard and other emergency services responded to secure the area. Residents at the Extended Stay America were allowed back into the building late Thursday. The hotel reopened fully on Friday after the room and other areas of the hotel were decontaminated.

The man whose room it was “is in critical condition and he is unable to speak with us right now. We have no indication why the ricin was in that room,” said Deputy Chief Suey.

“Usually, if [ricin victims] survive the first three to five days, they usually do fine,” Dr. Lawrence Sands told CNN. However, survivors often have long-term organ damage.

At least three pets were found in the room. “Two of those pets are fine. One of the pets is deceased or was put down,” Suey said. “The dog that was in there was without food and water for a week,” she added that there was no reason to supect it was exposed to ricin. Castor beans were also found in the room.

Officials have also recovered from the room a firearm, as well as an “anarchist” text containing an article on ricin.

Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesperson Richard Kolko said the incident is being treated as a criminal matter and did not appear to be related to terrorism “based on the information gathered so far.”

Captain Joe Lombardo of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said that ricin is not illegal to own unless it is intended for the poisoning of a person, adding that “We did have enough ricin to be of concern.”

In 2003, a man committed suicide in Las Vegas using ricin. There have also been a few incidents where ricin powder was found in the mail. Also in 2003, the United Kingdom had the Wood Green ricin plot which in the end found no ricin.

In 1978, Bulgarian defector Georgi Markov was famously assassinated in London with ricin injected with the tip of an umbrella.

Attorney Jack Thompson sets sights on Sims 2

Attorney Jack Thompson, fresh from the “Hot Coffee” controversy, has set his sights on the Electronic Arts (EA) video game The Sims 2 for a mod that removed the blur on nude character models in the game.

Thompson was quoted as saying “Sims 2, the latest version of the Sims video game franchise … contains, according to video game news sites, full frontal nudity, including nipples, penises, labia, and pubic hair.” Factually, the characters resemble that of a child’s dolls. Thompson also accused EA of being in collaboration with the mod makers.

In Electronic Arts’ defense, EA spokesman Jeff Brown said, “Reasonable people understand there is nothing improper in the game. Reasonable people recognise what mods are. A consumer who chooses to use a mod does so without any kind of agreement with the company. There is no nudity. There is nothing improper or vulgar in the Sims 2.”

A mod is third-party add-on to a game. Mods range from minor and subtle changes to the game, to full-fledged “total conversions” which merely use the original game engine to create a very different game.

Initial tests done on a six-year-old dairy cow in Fraser Valley, a farming community near Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada, are inconclusive for bovine spongiform encephalopathy, or “mad cow disease,” said Canada’s Food Inspection Agency.

Further tests are being conducted at Winnipeg’s National Centre for Foreign Animal Disease and results are expected on Sunday. Officials also say the cow did not enter the human food chain.

“Canada has a suite of internationally recognized safeguards that work together to provide high levels of human and animal health protection,” officials for the agency said in a statement.

If the results are positive, this will be Canada’s fifth case of the disease since 2003.

Jailed Swedish journalists tried as terrorists

Jailed Swedish journalists tried as terrorists

The trial for two Swedish journalists being tried for terrorism in Ethiopia began yesterday. The freelance journalists were arrested after entering from neighboring country Somalia without permission. They allegedly aided a terrorist group and were wounded in a gunfight, in which 15 rebels were killed.

Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi says the two imprisoned Swedish journalists “made their way into Ethiopia with a terrorist organization that had killed 70 people who worked for a mining company in an attack.” He says “I think it would be a criminal relationship in any country”.

If that is journalism, I don’t know what terrorism is

“They are, at the very least, messenger boys of a terrorist organization. They are not journalists,” the prime minister said. “Why would a journalist be involved with a terrorist organization and enter a country with that terrorist organization, escorted by armed terrorists, and participate in a fighting in which this terrorist organization was involved? If that is journalism, I don’t know what terrorism is,” says Zenawi.

The journalists were jailed after entering into Ethiopia’s troubled Ogaden region to cover rebel activity in the area. Zenawi claims one of the journalists was arrested on a previous attempt to enter illegally. “The second time he was seized with a terrorist organization in combat.”

The Swedes were found travelling with the Ogaden National Liberation Front (ONLF), and were investigating actions by a company with ties to Sweden’s Lundin Petroleum, oil group, and claims of human rights violations in the Ogaden region.

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt has been criticised for inaction post-arrests. Kerstin Lundell, who wrote a book on Lundin in Africa, says “the fact that Carl Bildt has reason to hide what is going on in Ogaden could explain why these journalists are still in prison.”

Bildt Lundin board member but left previous to the firm gaining an Ethiopian concession for oil exploration.

Journalist Anna Roxvall, who is acting as facilitator of the Swedish journalists says the claim that one of the journalists was arrested previously is wrong. “No, no, no. It is clean cut a lie”, she says.

Sveriges Radio, Sveriges Television, TT and Dagens Nyheter journalists applied for visa to attend the trial but were originally denied entry to the country. Ola Larsmo, writer and chairman of the Swedish Pen says access to information will be restricted if Swedish journalists do not attend. Zenawi says “we do not need to Swedish journalists to prove that our courts operate in accordance with international standards.”

Amongst the crowded court audience were eighteen Swedish journalists and several Western diplomats, including US ambassador to Ethiopia Donald Booth.

Voice of America says legal experts expect a quick resolution. The accused’s lawyers claim a four-to-six month trial is likely. An unnamed attorney close to the trial has claimed a negotiated settlement is still possible. The two journalists face fifteen years in prison if convicted of engaging in terrorist activity. The trial is scheduled to resume tomorrow.

Problems That Every Home Inspector In Chicago Should Know About

Posted on Monday, May 20, 2019 in Murals

byAlma Abell

A lot of planning goes into a home being built. Contractors and builders have to focus on every detail of a home before, while, and after all of the work is done. However, these builders aren’t perfect and as a result the homes aren’t entirely perfect either. This is when a Home Inspector In Chicago can come in handy. Inspectors are trained to observe and find all of the little problems a home can have. These professionals are used for examining both new and older homes.

Just what do these inspectors look for anyway? A simple and great example would be the gutters of a home. All homes should have gutters installed along the roofing. These features help guide rainwater to a designated location away from the foundation of the home. When it comes to older homes, inspectors should pay attention for clogged gutters. During the passing seasons, leaves, twigs, and dirt can become trapped in the gutters. This debris builds up until the gutter becomes clogged, and water is unable to flow as it should. This can cause water to sit along the roofing and can cause rotting and other damage.

How is the paint job of the home? The paint on a home’s siding is constantly facing the elements of mother nature. Over time, it’s only natural for paint to begin to chip and peel. This problem should be addressed right away by the homeowner. For starters, chipped and peeling paint looks aesthetically unpleasant. On top of that, the more paint that’s peeled the more the bare siding that’ll be exposed. If you have wood siding, it could become damaged by rain or the sun.

Sometimes the problem isn’t with actual home at all. Lawns should also be inspected by a Home Inspector Chicago. Does the lawn often suffer from puddles and standing water after heavy rain? Puddles next to your foundation can be a disaster waiting to happen. All soil that’s near the home should slope slightly away from the foundation. For at about 4-5 feet around the foundation the soil should have a slope of about 3 inches. This will help avoid a shifting foundation or a flooded basement.
