Big shoes to fill at eBay
Posted on Thursday, October 27, 2022 in Uncategorized

Saturday, June 4, 2005

There are often odd, unusual and controversial items up for sale on eBay – multi-million euro planes, the Pope’s old car and a young woman’s virginity, to name just a few. But how about the Prime Minister’s shoes?

Shoes custom designed for former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher have been put up for sale on eBay. The shoes, which have a reserve price of £2,930 (US $3,580), are currently owned by 65 year old Eleanor Graham. Ms. Graham bought them in a Sue Ryder charity shop after seeing a member of Thatcher’s staff drop them in the shop. She guessed that they would increase in value over the years, so Ms. Graham purchased them.

The Rayne shoes – which come in gold, silver and black suede – are size five and come with a letter received in 2001 from Ms Thatchers office confirming that she did wear Rayne shoes.

You can see the shoes at eBay by clicking here.

Hot Spots Of Provence

Posted on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 in Sports

Submitted by: Anthony Bridget

It isn’t really possible to make a list of Proven al spots. Each hill, each village, each caf is a spot of its own right. Knowing this, you can relax: it’s not about seeing it all, but about being there.

That being said, I lined up a few places where you wouldn’t hate to spend an afternoon.

THE LUBERON

The Lub ron is a small mountain range halfway between the Alps and the Mediterranean, largely wild and uninhabited. In fact, it has been classified as a biosphere reserve. On a map, the roads that border the range ressemble the shape of a smiling mouth. It would only take two hours to drive around but you could spend days roaming the small villages scattered within. Among them, Lourmarin, M nerbes, Bonnieux, Cucuron and Lacoste, the home of the Marquis de Sade, whose name gave us the word “sadistic”. This is the Provence made famous by the writer Peter Mayle. You can’t go wrong seeking rest in its colorful and perfumed landscapes.

THE RIVIERA

The French call it C te d’Azur. Though it is part of Provence, one doesn’t think of it when one hears Provence mentioned because the coast is a world of its own. If you visit before June or after August, when vacationers from Edimburgh to Moscow turn the riviera into one big gridlock, you can have a pleasant drive along the coast. Near Cannes, you will pass the Est rel range, whose red hues remind of Santa Fe. Past Nice, you can dunk into Monaco, or drive onward into Italy.

MONTAGNE SAINTE VICTOIRE

Just east of Aix-en-Provence, Mount Sainte Victoire stands 3,000 feet high over the countryside. Its imposing colorful slopes inspired many of C zanne’s paintings. The Ste Victoire is a haven for local hikers and climbers. From the summit, you will will have a dominating view over much of Provence.

CALANQUES

Along the coast between Marseille and Cassis, impressive limestone cliffs plunge into the sea and rush into deep faults called the “calanques”. They give a breather to Marseillais looking to reconnect with nature. Protected from the wind, the calanques’ crystal blue waters are a paradise for swimmers and sunbathers. Most of of the calanques are only accessible on foot or by boat, so getting there is usually quite an adventure.

CAMARGUE

Have you heard about a type of salt called “sel de Camargue”? Camargue is the flat marshy region south of Arles, where the Rhone river runs into the Mediterranean. When you get there you may feel like you’ve arrived in a different country as Camargue is a cultural anomaly for France… It grows rice. It has marshes where bulls and horses run wild. It is home to the “guardians”, France’s very own breed of cowboys, noted for their colorful shirts and stylish leather boots. And, once a year, it hosts an incredible pilgrimage when the statue of Black Sarah, the patron saint of the Gypsies, is carried to be washed in the sea. If you take the drive to Saintes Maries de la Mer, you can usually organize a horse ride on the spot.

OTHER SPOTS

The best spots, of course, are those you will discover yourelf. Meanwhile, we can’t leave you without at least dropping the names of a few stars on the touring circuit.

There are the cities: the great city of Marseille, with its old port and its Ste Baume mountain; Arles, with its arenas; Avignon, with its theatre festival and palace of the popes.

There are the villages: St Remy de Provence, home to French actress Brigitte Bardot; the Baux de Provence in the Alpilles hills, which gave its name to Bauxite; Gordes, where the tourist buses will let you know you’re back on the tourist trail.

And there are the places to visit in the back country: the Senanques abbey, picture-perfect in its lavender fields; and the Mont Ventoux, braving the elements, bare, white, cold, a far landmark often glimpsed when you reach the top of a climb, so dear to many a hiker’s heart.

Air Pacific re-brands as Fiji Airways

Air Pacific re-brands as Fiji Airways
Posted on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 in Uncategorized

Saturday, June 29, 2013

Fiji’s national airline Air Pacific has now officially returned to its original name: Fiji Airways. Fiji Airways adopted the Air Pacific name in 1971, slightly prior to its first international flight on June 3, 1973. The re-brand was described by interim CEO Aubrey Swift as allowing the airline to align itself “closer with Fiji as a destination”. The name change is designed in part to reduce the confusion which surrounded the name Air Pacific. Swift noted that “Air Pacific just didn’t resonate with our customers” and said that same people “thought we were an air conditioning company”.

Along with the name change, the airline has redesigned its website, and changed the name of each of its classes of service. Pacific Voyager and Tabua Class have been replaced with economy and business class respectively. The airline has also introduced plans to overhaul its fleet of older Boeing 747s with Airbus A330s. It has said that the completion of this overhaul and the re-branding efforts will be completed by the end of the year.

The airline’s new brand-mark and livery features a masi design created by Fijian artist, Makereta Matemosi. The new identity is to “symbolises the airline’s new identity and epitomises all that Fiji Airways represents. It is authentic, distinctive, and true to the airline’s Fijian roots”, the airline said.

Former National Basketball Association (NBA) player Eddie Griffin died on August 17, 2007, at age 25 due to injuries sustained in a car crash, the Harris County medical examiner’s office confirmed on Tuesday.

The former Minnesota Timberwolves forward, who was waived in March for violating the League’s substance abuse program, ignored a railroad warning, drove his SUV through a barrier, and collided with a moving train at about 1:30 a.m., according to Houston Police. His vehicle caught fire and was soon engulfed in flames.

No identification was found and the body was badly burned. For that reason, dental records were used to identify him. Griffin, who played college Basketball at Seton Hall University, played for the Houston Rockets from 2001–2003, and the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2004–2007. The five-year veteran had been battling alcoholism since leaving Seton Hall. He is survived by his three-year-old daughter Amaree.

The Sample Cover Letter And Salary Requirement Request

Posted on Monday, October 24, 2022 in Dentist

By Mario Churchill

Free templated sample cover letters can have a bankrupting effect on your job search. Using a sample that you find on the Internet or in a book is never a wise investment if you are serious about your intentions. The serious job-seeker knows the importance of an outstanding cover letter. If you compile an original cover letter filled with valuable, interesting information about you, your job search will not end up in the red.

Often times, a company wants to know what you think of your own monetary value. Posted job openings sometimes request that the applicant include a salary request with the cover letter. It is important to note that if the advertisement for the job does not specifically ask for this information, it is best to leave it out and address it once you secure the interview. If a job description does require desired salary information it has to be broached with caution and a few other considerations.

Requests for a salary history or requirement can be a little intimidating. Do not forego the request for the sake of your own comfort. If you neglect to include the information that a company asks for, you may be perceived as apathetic. It could also cause the hiring manager to question your ability to follow directions. Choose not to take the easy way out and go ahead and buckle down and do what it takes to calculate realistic figures.

There are a couple of formulas you can apply to determine how to approach your salary requirements. No matter which option you choose, be sure to indicate some degree of flexibility in regards to financial compensation. One route you can take is to tell the hiring manager that your salary requirements are negotiable based on the position and the benefit package you will receive. Another direction gives the potential salary range that you are willing to accept. But bear in mind that if an applicant chooses this option it should still be indicated that numbers are negotiable. This tip might keep you in the running for just a little longer than the next applicant.

When you bring up the issue of salary be as brief as possible. A simple statement of your desired income is more than enough to fulfill the potential employer’s request. Your intent is to meet the requested criteria, not to launch into a diatribe as to why you feel that your request is appropriate. If you have doubts as to ‘how much’, do your research. Consult credible sources and develop a general idea of what the job is worth. Keep in mind that with the cost of living factors into the equation. Where you live directly influences how much your salary will be. Do not overlook the significance of asking for a reasonable, regionally-suitable amount and do not forget to make it flexible.

Finally, use the other content of the cover letter to stand out among all of the other applicants. The salary aspect is only a very small portion of the letter itself. The majority of what you have to say is about what you can do for the hiring company. Sell yourself as a must -have employee that they can not afford to let slip through their hands. Do something unique and memorable like craft a bold headline that lets the reader know where you are coming from immediately. Mind your p’s and q’s and your cover letter should tip the balance over to your side of the scales.

All cover letters serve the same purpose. Cover letters sell the applicant to the hiring manager. They provide an attractive appealing ‘cover’ of you as a person, also. The cover letter works hard to keep the reader’s time invested in learning more about the applicant. The more time a hiring manger invests in reviewing your qualifications and experience, the more likely it is that you will receive an expedient response. Sample cover letters and salary requirement letters are contrived and overused. Chances are a hiring manager has already seen the same ones over and over again. Take these steps to ensure that your cover letter and salary requirement are up to par and you should hear from the hiring manager in no time.

Obama surprises ‘brother’ Joe Biden with Presidential Medal of Freedom
Posted on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 in Uncategorized

Friday, January 13, 2017

Yesterday afternoon United States President Barack Obama surprised his two-term vice president Joe Biden in the White House State Dining Room with the country’s highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom with distinction.

In a ceremony described by the press as highly emotional, Obama cited his choice of Biden as a running mate as one of the best of his career and described their few arguments as the sort that brothers would have and Biden himself as “a lion of American history.”

This made only the fourth time in U.S. history that this modified form, the Medal of Freedom with distinction, has been awarded. Biden joined Pope John Paul II, then-former President Ronald Reagan, and former General and Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Early during the ceremony, Obama noted comically “this also gives the Internet one last chance to talk about our ‘bromance.'” The hashtag “#BROTUS,” a play on the acronym for President of the United States (POTUS), was a common sight on Twitter in 2016.

How To Install Synthetic Grass

How To Install Synthetic Grass

by

Prograss

The “Save Water” movement has inspired many Australian homeowners to install synthetic or artificial grass in and around their homes. The green colour soothes your eyes, and beautifies the surrounding areas. The wonderful thing is that you need no watering, pruning or maintenance. You might know this by some different name, for example, synthetic grass, artificial grass, fake grass, imitation grass, or artificial turf. The question that comes up once you have bought artificial grass for your home is how to install synthetic grass yourself. Before I start to explain the process, let me tell you that this is a bit more of a complex process than laying turf or natural grass, but a more convenient and efficient one. You would find think that this might be as simple as laying a carpet, but it is not. Any mistake or improper installation may affect its durability or usability, or both. If you can manage to install this the way that has been recommended, you can save a lot of time and money without the need for maintenance.

Preparing The Ground for Artificial Grass First you need to decide the exact area where you want to install artificial grass. You then need to make this area clean and free from any dust, dirt, soil and similar substances from a 75 to 100mm depth. You can use some sorts of hand tools for this job. You may also need an excavator like a bobcat or backhoe to dig out large rocks, hard clay and other such things from below the surface. If you think you may need to need to hire a bobcat, you will need to measure the access area first. If you have to hire a bin for disposing grass and rocks, confirm before hand whether or not you need special permission to use the bin for this purpose. Generally, this excavation process for an average area may take a whole day. Larger areas may take weeks. This time length can reduced or extended through weather conditions and the number of people you may have involved in the process. Installing The Base for Synthetic Grass Once you have excavated the area and surrounded this with a border of bricks, timber, tile etc, you should try to squash the soil to the right level. level. Unload crushed rock or powder near the site of installation either in your back yard or front yard. If the truck has difficulty unloading it anywhere near your site, you might have to do it manually. Fill the ground area with crushed rock. Apply crushed powder over this to 10mm depth approximately until the area is smooth. If any dips or craters remain, these will reflect in artificial or synthetic lawn as well, so it is better to let them not be there at all. You also need to provide appropriate outlet for flow of water. Light rain can be absorbed by synthetic lawn, but heavy fall will flow off its surface. Installing Synthetic Grass Artificial grass come in rolls. They come with grains to keep the grass fibres aligned. The sheet should be laid so that the grains can be aligned in the same direction. It is okay to let it get some sun heat, approx an hour before installation. Now cut to the required sizes and paste. You can use a Stanley knife for the purpose. Now fill the artificial grass surface with fine, kiln-dried sand. You can obtain this from either your artificial grass vendor or from other quarry/supplier. Sand fills the gaps between fibres and makes it sit properly. Now you brush out the excessive sand from over the lawn. You are almost done. All you need now is to cover the sand. You can do this by using a granulated rubber product. These products can be obtained from your synthetic grass vendor or supplier. Eureka! You’ve done it!

We have a comprehensive range of

products are made to suit our tough climate.
